If you're bored of all your old reasons for hating immigrants, like they steal all our jobs but never work and press one for English press two to be deported, guess what: you can now hate immigrants for ruining the environment.
Wonkette spots this ad, sponsored by the group Californians for Population Stabilization, running in San Diego. The ad pulls an old bait-and-switch, starting by asking about carbon emission footprints and then making a right turn into immigration policy:
Note that the group does not distinguish between legal and illegal immigrants. Given that we have much more control over legal immigration rates (if we could control illegal immigration, it wouldn't be a problem), any attempts to crack down on immigration, environmentally-motivated or otherwise, would just lower the legal levels, punishing those who come into this country legally while leaving illegal immigrations rates where they are. So good luck with that.
But the real gem of logic is this, from CAPS' website:
"Because of American’s proclivity for conspicuous consumption, most environmentalists understand that population growth in the United States affects the environment here and also worldwide," commented Missy DeYoung, Chairman of the Board of Californians for Population Stabilization. "However, many environmentalists won’t talk about the fact that immigration is the number one factor driving U.S. population growth. It’s intellectually dishonest to think we can address population growth without addressing mass immigration."
See? Rather than reforming our "proclivity for conspicuous consumption," especially because of our outsized influence on the global climate, we should instead cut down on the number of people we allow to do it within our borders. The answer to our environmental problems is not changing our laws so that carbon emissions are reduced in a dynamic relation to population growth. The answer is making the desctruction of nature an American-exclusive activity.
It doesn't matter anyway, as global warming climate change doesn't even exist.
