I don't know about you all, but I still haven't quite recovered from the emotional punch in the gut that was Glen Hansard's "Philander" music video (watch it here). When word broke that yet another Hansard video had made its way online, I preemptively grabbed a giant wad of Kleenex and gave myself a giant "there, there" pat on the head. Turns out… holy crap, it's not the most depressing thing I've ever seen. In fact, it's actually kind of… uplifting… and feel good. Maybe Glen's upcoming solo album Rhythm and Repose (out June 19) won't be the all-out tearjerker I've been dreading awaiting anxiously after all.

"It's like going out on a trip to an exotic island: It's summer, it's full of hope, it's exciting, it's alive, it makes you want to dance and sing along," director Heidi Rose tells Rolling Stone. "We shared this feeling with a group of young men and women, who very spontaneously and generously got involved in the making of our video."
Well, it's great to see Glen having something of a good time (in a Steve Zissou cap, no less!) in stark contrast with the morose blues of "Philander". The documentary realness and eccentric cast of real-life characters feels like a clear extension of Once, though the song's early Van Morrison vibes clash a little bit with the setting. No complaints, though—I can't lie, seeing that battered old acoustic guitar again brought an instant smile to my face. Also, that dog is pretty awesome.
