Everybody knows that AMC may be one of the best television networks out there right now. This is both because they have Mad Men and Breaking Bad but then sometimes they just go "F*ck it, we'll air Rambo this whole weekend." And then they put together killer montages in their commercials that make Con Air look like an Academy Award nominated film. But AMC is a total tease when it comes to their original programming, because they know they can.
The deal is this, they set up six pilots that they're interested in and the writer/showrunner must make a presentation. AMC can say yes to two scripts but they could also say no to all of them, like they did last year. It's ruthless and awesome, except the last time they said yes was with Hell On Wheels and that show got sucky fast.
The six pilots in the running are as follows:
Chris Mundy's Low Winter Sun, an adaptation on the New Zealand crime thriller/ murder mystery. God willing this won't go The Killing direction but hey, who knows?
Craig Silverstien's Turn, which is about George Washington's spy ring. What's that you say? Will this be more of a intellectual Tinker Tailer/Soldier Spy kind of thing or a James Bond in the 1700s kind of thing? I would totally watch the latter because it would most likely involve gagdets coming out of wooden teeth.
Richard LaGravense's Philly Lawyer, which is about a law student. Ugh, boring. Moving on.
Jake Paltrow & Robbie Kinberg's Crystal Pines sounds interesting- it's about a journalist who decides to take part in a cloning experiment. Being John Malcovich-esque? Or even more surreal? As long as it doesn't include doctors/lawyers/detectives.
Jason Cahill's F/V Mean Tide is about a Maine lobster fishing family and it also wins for most interesting title. Plus, Maine people are salt of the earth badasses.
Then there's Kerry Williamson's Sacret Games based on the Vikram Chandra novel about crime and punishment in Mumbai. Ugh again with the crime. The only crime I want to see is me buying an old school 4Loko.
What do you want to see? Talk about it.
