UPDATE 2:30: No way, Jose. Mole's still up and running. This is getting down right LeCarre.
ORIGINAL: On Tuesday, Gawker introduced its newest columnist, "a long-standing, current employee of Fox News Channel who will be providing Gawker with regular dispatches from inside the organization." The mole complained about the decreasing quality and increasing acrimony of Fox Nation, the station's aggregate news site.
The post that sent the mole over the edge was Obama's Hip Hop BBQ Didn't Create Jobs:
The post neatly summed up everything that had been troubling me about my employer: Non sequitur, ad hominem attacks on the president; gleeful race baiting; a willful disregard for facts; and so on...That was it for me. It wasn't that the one incident was so bad, in and of itself. But it was so galvanizing, and on top of so many other little incidents, that I guess it just finally pushed me over the edge.
The mole gave Gawker a video of Romney and Hannity before an interview, in which Romney discusses competitive horseracing, correctly pronounes an effete French term, and general sounds like the aristocrat that he is (it's also accompanied by a nice tip on how changing a tie can make one interview look like two). The second post was all about the loos at Fox headquarters.
Fox told Mediaite it has found the mole, though it the organization released no details beyond that it was "exploring legal options at this time." Quick work if they did track him/her down and confined the leakage to a 24 hour period in which nothing damaging got out. Of course, if you're scoring at home, the fact that nothing dishy or shocking came out of the Fox News headquarters is actually scarier, as it means their right wing manipulation of the news is so unremarkable that's all in a day's work.
