Last time we heard from Jay Rock was when his TDE camp finally got their dues in a deal with Interscope (unless you count the recent Nardwuar interview with Kendrick Lamar where Jay finds out he's on the flyer for the Los Angeles Gang Tour bus ride), and will ScHoolboy Q in the heat at the moment with Habits & Contradictions, it only makes sense that Jay would push forward with a move.
For his latest drop, Jay puts out a chess-game-called-life themed record properly titled "Checkmate" that takes on some of that narrative style we saw in last year's Follow Me Home in a mentorship-like warning to those out there going at life faster than "one move at a time." It's got that usual West Coast style with Jay's intricate lyricism and The Futuristiks' production, so whatever you're expecting, you'll probably get.
Anyway, here's the track, give it a listen, throw up your thoughts. I don't know if Jay Rock has anything in the works at the moment, but hopefully we'll see a few more ether tracks like "Checkmate" drop down.
