While the pains of NBC and FOX’s pitiful rosters give me enough laughter to get through the daily grind every single day, the execs over at ABC must be showering in actual dollar bills with all of their smash hit series on the upswing this year. TVLine reports that second-season pickups will be given to some of the biggest ratings takers of TV’s freshman class, including the dark soap Revenge and fairy tale saga Once Upon A Time.
Also being reported as definite freshman pickups are half-hour sitcoms Suburgatory and Last Man Standing, led by Tim Allen. On the veteran side, you can expect renewals from the obvious ABC staples, including Grey’s Anatomy (pending new deals with several castmembers), Modern Family, Castle, Happy Endings, and The Middle.
On the other side, shows on the bubble include Cougar Town and Private Practice as well as the much-hyped GCB and Ashley Judd mystery series Missing, both of which debuted this march to modest ratings. Long shots? Don’t look for Body Of Proof, The River, or Pan Am to join their siblings next fall, instead getting thrown in the pile of unfortunate cancellations along with previously dumped Charlie’s Angels and Man Up.
