An entire season has come and gone since rumors Colin McDowell suggested Erdem Moralioglu be considered for the vacant spot at Dior, though the young designer (and favorite of both Kate Middleton and Michelle Obama) has finally put the hearsay to rest. The Business of Fashion columnist had been so impressed with Erdem's spring 2012 collection that he threw his hat in the ring as a deserving contender of John Galliano's former job.
"Anything like that is a compliment, but you just have to concentrate on your job and what you're doing. I'm really lucky - and it's a real compliment - that women of all ages wear my clothes," he told Vogue UK. "Michelle Obama wore one skirt of mine about five years ago and I am still associated with that and that's wonderful. When I started at the RCA I never thought I'd be doing things like that."
And to follow up on speculation that he's set his eye on a diffusion line, he said, "It's never been the right moment. If it works for some people, then that's wonderful — but it depends on where you're at. For me, it's really important to concentrate on your collection and your own work. Once you start looking at versions of your work, it can get a bit dangerous."
