A partial list of this year's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony presenters has made its way online—Rolling Stone reports that the Beastie Boys will be inducted by Chuck D (sensible), John Mellencamp will induct Donovan (fitting), E Street Band member and sometimes New Jersey gangster Steven Van Zandt will induct The (Small) Faces (respectful), Bette Middler will induct Laura Nyro (classy)… and Chris Rock will induct the Red Hot Chili Peppers (...). Yes, the same Chris Rock you're thinking of.
Rock and all the other presenters, inductees and attendees will be hauling ass out to Clevelandthis April 14, where the Rock Hall induction will be held for only the third time in the institution's nearly 30-year history. (The rest of us mere mortals can watch an edited broadcast on May 5 on HBO.)
Now, I know what you're thinking— why in the world is Chris Rock inducting the Chili Peppers into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame instead of roasting them on his own HBO special? Well, I'm glad you asked. If you'll recall, Rock directed their 2007 music video for "Hump de Bump" which I've conveniently embedded for your re-viewing pleasure:
See? It’s not as crazy-random a choice as you thought. No offense to comic timing of John "Cougar" Mellencamp, but I'm gonna go ahead and wager that Rock's speech will be a definite highlight of the evening… especially without a proper Guns N’ Roses performance. (p.s. No word yet on who will be inducting Guns N' Roses. Personally, I vote for Snuffleupagus— he's about as likely to show up as Axl Rose, don't you think?)
