It is incredible to see what has happened in the Middle East and particularly in Syria. When we were there several years ago, it seemed unlikely that there would be an uprising since the government had such a strong hold on the nation. Our new SYrian friends would shush us when we were telling jokes or speaking ill of the government. It seemed that the government had eyes and ears everywhere.
However, people can only take so much before they are willing to risk their very lives in exchange for a better life, a better tomorrow. That point has arrived in Syria as well where protesters are not letting up even after being mowed down violently by the regime of Bashar Assad.
"With Syria showing no signs of acceding to the demands of the Arab League, including that it stop using violence to suppress antigovernment protests, the regional confrontation deepened. Now, the Arab League is pressuring them further and stipulating that the government end all violence, withdraw its armed forces from civilian areas and allow Arab or other monitors to circulate freely within Syria." I am truly hopeful that this peace plan will work.
