In case you're one of those weirdly normal, socially adjusted individuals who haven't been counting the days and hours since '90s post-glam supergroup Garbage released a new album, single, or music video, you should know that the rest of us freaks have been waiting nearly seven years to hear Shirley Manson hiss and moan over a Butch Vig beat again.
I'm beyond thrilled to report that the wait is just about over—their long-overdue fifth album Not Your Kind Of People drops May 14th (via the band's new STUNVOLUME label) and first single "Blood For Poppies" (great title) has made its way online.
Be sure to turn this one up to 11... or, um, 110...
…It's f--king fantastic. Very reminiscent of the first album—densely produced and layered but with the same gritty, post-grunge texture that made Garbage such an essential listen when it first came out. The sprawling electronic bridge section makes a nice nod to beautifulgarbage and their more synth/beat work, but, if you ask me, nothing outshines that trademark Garbage sound of Steve Marker's guitar riff. It's exactly what I wanted to hear on a new Garbage single.
Fellow freaks—what do you guys think of "Blood For Poppies"? Give us your initial thoughts in the comments section below.
