The Full Length 'Girls' Trailer Is Here To Speak The Truth

Film and TV Editor
On Feb 21, 2012

OK, I may have talked about this before, but have you guys ever looked at a celebrity and said to yourself "I betcha we'd be best friends if we ever met"? That's how I feel about Lena Dunham. At least, even if we weren't best friends I'd want her to be my mentor or just kind of follow her career path. Why? Because not only did she write/direct/star in the film of my generation Tiny Furniture but she's also working with Judd Apatow for the new HBO series Girls

I'm actually supposed to be bitter about this show because one of my besties auditioned but didn't get the part but after watching this trailer, I just can't. I am so incredibly excited for this series I can barely contain myself. Mostly I am relived that finally there will be a realistic show about women in New York City. I have a perpetual axe to grind with Sex and the City because that's just not how it is. How many girls do I see year after year move to this city expecting romantic apartments, endless cosmos with your gal pals and a string of dates with relatively attractive yet balding men. That is not how this life goes. Sure, if you're part of the billionaire girls club you get some of the nicer things, but even those people don't live like Carrie F*cking Bradshaw. You know what New York is to a twenty something single girl? It's a whole lot of work followed by Downton Abbey marathons with two buck chuck from Trader Joes. If we do get laid, it's a massive rouse, no doubt brought on by a friend who dared you to talk to some guy. He probably works as a graphic designer or something and lives with his brother. Do really, with his brother. Like in the same room.

ANYWAY, that's why Girls looks funny and poignant and F*CKING IMPORTANT. Plus anything that involves a strong female cast and crew without bastardizing feminism (I've been on that issue a lot to day see here and here) is alright with me.

Also, if you are Lena Dunham and you are reading this I hope that you will understand that my fangirldom is appropriate enough that we could actually get cosmos and talk about shoes if you wanted to. Just sayin'.
