Check out the "Simple Song" music video exclusively on iTunes.

Okay, so imagine I'm speaking to you in a crotchety old grandpa voice: "You know, back in my day, we didn't have a YouTube! If you wanted to see a music video, you had to just sit in front of the MTV all Saturday and wait for 'em to play it!" That's my answer to all the inevitable whining that you can't simply stream The Shins' new "Simple Song" music video. Don't bitch—this is one you're going to want to hold onto.

James Mercer stars as a dead patriarch whose children (played by the other Shins) have to go on a wild treasure hunt slash nostalgia trip to find the deed to the family house. Antics and moments of emotional tenderness, of course, ensue.

The song is still great—love the Royal Tenenbaums meets Death At A Funeral vibe, especially when it integrates the old VHS camcorder footage. (Were we the only family who didn't grow up with one of those? I think so. Sad face.) James Mercer plays a pretty convincing screwball dad, doesn't he? I wish someone would throw a piñata surprise part for me... but then again, I also like the idea of destroying my vile children with a wrecking ball. Either way, it's a great video that I do believe I'll keep in my iTunes library for the time being.
