'The Celebrity Apprentice' Review: "Hero Worship" (Season 5 Premiere)

On Feb 20, 2012

Okay, so the premiere of the fifth season of The Celebrity Apprentice was quite surprising. As in, it was quite enjoyable to watch. Not sure if its something that will be watched live every week but in some one's free time it wouldn't be out of the question to catch up on DVR. The cast has some table flipping potential and celebrities like Adam Carolla, Dee Snider and Arsenio Hall add some comic relief. Not to mention egos like Aubrey O'Day. I mean come on--she has more Twitter followers than anyone else. Trump clearly knows what he's doing because even though they are playing for charity doesn't mean it won't be cut-throat.

Exclusive: Donald Trump, Aresenio Hall and Debbie Gibson talk rivalries to expect

Sunday night was the start to sizing each other up and the entertainers to guess at what their competition will be. It's the men against the women and they are immediately split up to decide their project managers and team names. The women name themselves Forte and actress Patricia Velasquez as team leader and Unanimous and American Chopper's Paul Teutul, Sr. is the final decision for the men. In the boardroom they all learn its a celebrity sandwich challenge and their off. As Trump puts it, it's absolutely terrible to be the first person to get fired.

The premiere was two hours and the men win out of nowhere with a $305,000 check given by a close friend of Paul's. Not even contacts like Wyclef, Russell Simmons and Andy Cohen could help the women in this one. Tricky editing is key in this show but that's what actually made it worth watching.

Is it possible to get intrigued by the show? Of course. It doesn't seem like there's a lot of talk on the NBC show but there's clearly an audience for it.

Oh, and model Cheryl Tiegs was fired this time.

Grade: 8/10

Sumology: It's good dramatic and entertaining television. It's something that will be switched back and forth between The Good Wife.
