'Battle Of The Exes' Interview: Tyrie Says Jasmine Should Have Won "The Dome"

Editor-in-Chief
On Feb 17, 2012

Tyrie and Jasmine packed their bags on Wednesday night's episode The Challenge: Battle of the Exes after losing to Rachel and Aneesa in "The Dome." It seemed inevitable since most of the teams were against the drama that always seemed to follow the now-enemies. So are Tyrie and Jasmine friends again? What were they even fighting about?

I caught up with Tyrie to find out. Check out our interview below!

Ology: Hi Tyrie. So what did you think watching the episode back?

Tyrie: That episode, you know, great times. I saw a lot of scape-goating. I saw a lot of finger-pointing. But whatever man. I thought the episode was cool. I thought that me and Jasmine didn’t get a fair shake when it came to the elimination round. The biggest thing I can remember is how much it hurt falling off that pillar.

At the end of the episode, you said that you and Jasmine might be cool and she was like “I don’t ever want to talk to him again." Where do you guys stand now?

I’m not really speaking to her. That’s kind of the where the magic of reality TV lies because I said a lot more. I said a lot more. It's kind of bittersweet watching this episode. It seems like a lot of things I say and things I did were kind of warped. Me and Jasmine... I tried to touch base with her. She never responds. I tried once or twice. That’s it, I really don’t care. I really don’t understand why they kind of portrayed it the way they did. I mean, whatever man. It makes me kind of upset. I won’t say at her, but how it played out.

It was hard to tell what you guys were even fighting about. What were they even about?

The truth of the matter is that the fight [Wednesday] night was by far one of the most pointless fights of all time. It was a pointless fight because the argument started with Emily. Emily is the one who started the whole argument. And, you know, Jasmine being the bandwagon Tyrie-hater that she is jumped in. Whether it was fair, whether it was true, whether it was false. Any opportunity that Jasmine has to say something mean to me, or do something mean to me, or do something stupid to me, she took it. The fact of the matter is that Emily started that fight. We started that fight over her trying to tell me how high the temperature of the oven should be. And then Jasmine jumps, you know, because she likes to bandwagon against me. It was a stupid fight. And it was just simply used to make me look more like the bad guy than I actually was. I don’t really get some of these people’s reasoning. I guess it’s not for me to understand.

What do you think of all this Rachel and Johnny drama?

It should’ve been water underneath the bridge and I definitely dislike it even more because I wouldn’t have wanted to go against them in elimination. Not only because I’m personally cool with both Rachel and Aneesa. It’s literally one of the worst match-ups. There’s no variety there. It’s the same thing with someone like Abram and Cara Maria. I don’t think Abe would have beat me and I don’t think Cara Maria would beat Jasmine. It’s very obvious what the strategies are, it’s cool. It’s how you play the game. I respect the way they play the game. It’s very, very obvious how their strategies went.

So do you regret hooking up with her?

I don’t necessarily regret hooking up with her, I regret lying in the first place. The truth of the matter is, I lied to cover up what happened for Jasmine. And instead of her appreciating me, and just had a coming out about this game and playing this game and going about our business, they went this over dramatic, overblown route to try to make it right with her boyfriend. If you check Rivals, the second I left, she was hooking up with Roy Lee. I mean, who really ruined her relationship? So I don’t really necessarily regret hooking up with her, I regret lying trying to save her ass. I should have been regular Tyrie and said “go home." Probably not going to see anymore nice guy Tyrie.

So you got into shape before coming to this challenge. Was that specifically for The Challenge and to help your chances of winning or just to get back into shape in general?

Well, it was a little of both actually. I’m not one to sit there and lie and my performance on Rivals did motivate me also. After doing these challenges three or four times, you’ve got to realize, they're not really built for a 230, 240, 250-pound guy. If you want to succeed in these challenges you really gotta be sleek. You have to be fast, you have to have endurance, and toughness. If you don’t have that, you don’t have a chance of winning. I want to win a challenge. I want my hand raised at the end. So now I wanna do whatever it takes to get there. I understand now. I guess before I didn’t have so much of a personal stake in it. Now I want to win. Now I want to put a few people in their place.

Like you said, the challenges aren't really built for big guys, but they aren't really built for small girls either. Were you surprised Jasmine did as well as she did in "The Dome"?

I mean, to be fair, I’m surprised Jasmine didn’t win "The Dome." I’m six foot. We all know that wasn’t supposed to be my "Dome" to play. And, unfortunately we kinda had opposites too, going against a female pair team. There is no way on this earth they would have put us in a place where we could have won. But Jasmine is 80 pounds, she should’ve won. I’m not going to be nice about that. Nah, for real. Everybody knew when that challenge got up there, Tyrie can go as hard as possible, and you probably not going to win. Jasmine should have won. There is no reason why she shouldn’t be able to jump over that bar. If you would have put me, CT, Dunbar, Johnny, Mark, any of us guys, we probably would have lost that challenge. Straight up. But, yeah, you know, I feel she should’ve won it.

So you guys haven’t really talked since?

Not really. I don’t really plan on it either.

Would you do another challenge?

Yes, I’m hoping to do another challenge. I’m hoping I get a call. I hear rumors that there is a fall one. I hope that I get a call. I wanna win.

I'm guessing you'd prefer individual-based challenge?

I prefer individual. I prefer a two or three. If it’s not individual, then a team one. I don’t want to do anymore partners.

If you had to pick a partner, who would you pick?

Probably Jennifer from my season. She’s a great competitor and honestly, if you start running your mouth against her, she’s the one that shuts you down.

So who are you rooting for now?

I definitely wanna see CT and Diem take it. CT’s a good friend of mine. We have a lot of history.
