Keith Olbermann, Andrew Breitbart, Dana Loesch In Twitter Fight Over Rapes In Occupy Wall Street Camps

On Feb 15, 2012

On Tuesday night, Current TV host Keith Olbermann got into a heated battle on Twitter with Andrew Breitbart and CNN contributor and Big Journalism blogger Dana Loesch over Olbermann’s February 13 assertion on his program “Countdown” that there rapes and sexual assaults in various Occupy Wall Street encampments were “made up.”

On “Countdown,” Olbermann was commenting over a clip in which Breitbart was yelling at Occupy protesters who had stopped by last week’s CPAC conference in Washington D.C. who called on Occupiers to “stop raping people!”

After accusing Breitbart of being drunk and on drugs, Olbermann’s guest and founder of the liberal blog Daily Kos, Markos Moulitsas, claimed that the myriad documented cases of sexual assault and attempted cover-ups by leaders of those Occupy encampments were both “made up” and inconsequential:

“They [Occupy Wall Street supporters] can be as filthy and they can rape people — if you want to make stuff up —but the fact is nobody really cares about it because that message isn’t about the messenger, it’s not about who’s delivering a message, but it’s about the message itself which really resonates at a very core emotional level with people who are suffering in this economy,” Moulitsas told Olbermann.

When challenged on this assertion, and demands made by Breitbart’s Big Journalism for Current’s co-founders, former Vice President Al Gore and Joel Hyatt, to address this irresponsible statement, Olbermann took to Twitter to double down on the comments.

"No Occupy Rapes, No Cover-Up, No Apology, No Retraction," tweeted Olbermann.

Breitbart’s network, which has provided running coverage of the many criminal abuses committed at the Occupy encampments across the nation and globally since the movement’s inception on September 17, 2011, posted a selection of the best-of rapes and cover-ups for Olbermann to digest.

Some of those include:

Olbermann shot back that the stories above were of Occupiers getting raped, and that they were the victims of the documented assaults not the perpetrators. “why are you blaming the victims, @Dloesch,” Olbermann asked Loesch.

The Twitter battle continues, even to this hour. When Breitbart asked why are “mny lfties dnying the nmbr of #Occupy rapes [sic],” Olbermann responded “Because almost none of the allegations are of rape and most on this list are duplicated.”

Breitbart appeared on Current TV’s “The Young Turks” on Tuesday to discuss with Cenk Uyger the accusation of rape, racism and several other topics of contention between the conservative blogger and the progressive television news hosts.
