Apparently not. I'm not sure where I got the idea that Green Day have been toiling away in the studio for months, hard at work on the proper follow-up to 2009's 21st Century Breakdown (probably, um, the slew of new songs they premiered on stage last year... see below), but at least now it's officially—yes, Green Day have begun work on their ninth studio album. Start getting excited.

"Happy Valentine's Day!" tweeted Mr. Billie Joe Armstrong yesterday, "Officially started recording the new record today. It's F—k Time!!!!" (via NME.com)
The announcement is kind of the best Valentine's Day gift I got this year... though I'm not sure what exactly happens during "F—k Time". Could it be the name of the new album? How amazing/preposterous would that be? Personally, I'm more excited about this new Green Day album than I have been about... well, anything they've done since American Idiot, really. The sprawling, post-modern Pete Townshend rock opera schtick is cool... at least, it was... but I miss the straightforward punk muscle of Insomniac and Nimrod. That's the Green Day I grew up loving—it'd be great to hear the fellas play shorter, faster, brutal-er (not a word but I'm running with it anyway) songs again.
What do you guys think—excited to hear the next Green Day? Couldn't care less? Let us know in the comments section below.
