I don't know about you guys, but I've been going cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs over the two new Shins songs. "Simple Song" b/w "September" drops on 7" vinyl tomorrow, with the band's highly anticipated, long overdue fourth album Port Of Morrow dropping on March 20. If you haven't already, check out the new single and b-side below and then hop over to listenbeforeyoubuy.net, where you can stream album cut "The Rifle's Spiral" for a limited time.
The Shins: New Album 'Port Of Morrow' Coming In March

First thoughts?
Love the pseudo-gloomy atmosphere and the unexpected chord changes, especially between the intro and first verse. As expected, it too owes more stylistically to Wincing The Night Away than The Shins' earthier first two albums, but no complains here—James Mercer's processed vocals are gloriously endearing as ever, surrounded on all sounds by bubbling synths and liquid bass thumps. Dare I say it, but this sounds like something Air would've recorded circa Moon Safari, believe it or not. Didn't think it was possible, but I'm even more excited for Port Of Morrow to drop. Sorry, James—loved Broken Bells, but it's just not the same.
