Yes, LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy Is Really Making Coffee Now

Music Editor
On Feb 01, 2012

I'm a little giddy about this—it's not every day that two of your favorite things in the entire universe (i.e. espresso and the music of LCD Soundsystem) collide in a cosmic clash of awesomeness. But yes, it's true—at the Sundance premiere of the new LCDS documentary Shut Up And Play The Hits (check out the trailer below), frontman James Murphy announced what he plans to do now that his throw-back dance-rock group is no more: brew a damn good cup of coffee.

Freak Out Over LCD Soundsystem's 'SHUT UP AND PLAY THE HITS' Trailer

"I make a lot of coffee," says Murphy. "For my birthday, my girlfriend got me a training course with the world champion. That's what I'm going to do when I get back to London." He can't say much about his new espresso line, currently in "negotiations". "I thought it would be fun. I have beans that I like. I like this sometimes and that sometimes. Sometimes in the middle." (via New York Magazine)

Yes, I'm one of those post-millennial pop culture dorks who bought some of David Lynch's signature coffee blend... yes, I think that all three LCD Soundsystem albums will be properly recognized as landmark classics in a decade or two after it's uncool and then cool to like them again... and yes, I can't even turn my notebook on in the morning without a double shot next to my right hand. Whenever and wherever James Murphy decides to release his new espresso brew, I'll be the first piece of hipster scum in line... little white cup in hand.
