People have put together some strange unofficial music videos for The Weeknd's tracks since he dropped House of Balloons early last year, and the most recent, courtesy of High5Collective, for the track "Montreal" off his Echoes of Silence mixtape might be the worst thus far.
Aside from the fact that it has nothing to do with the song, it's too blatantly awkward; you know, the pretentious sort of short film you'd find in an undergraduate film student's portfolio. You've got your odious winter backdrop, a father that wants to molest his daughter, a daughter smoking what looks to be meth, a maybe/maybe not suicide, a wine-chuckling mother, and pyromaniac son, all of which have absolutely nothing to do with the track, and lack the capacity to better the song. Maybe I'm just being a cynical asshole though.
Echoes of Silence was another masterpiece from The Weeknd's 2011 breakout, and the same goes for "Montreal." This video--not so much. Anyway, here it is, give it a watch, throw up your thoughts.
