Only just were we recovering from the red carpet smackdown that was the Golden Globes when our style radars alerted us to yet another impending red carpet extravaganza; the Academy Awards.
And though some of the season's most entertaining style performers have sadly been omitted from the nominations list (meaning no Tilda showstoppers and no effortlessly-chic Emma Stone ensembles), we've got high hopes for the Oscars' ladies in waiting.
Cherry-picking from the brand spankin' new Spring 2012 Haute Couture collections as well as some of the highights from Spring 2012 RTW, we've collated a pretty darn likely list of frocks, if we do say so ourselves.

and the award goes to... BEST DRESSED

Oh, if only. Rooney, we beg of you: opt for Alexander McQueen, Spring '12 RTW. Daring detail would ensure you were a winner and not only of the highly-coveted Best Actress gong you've been nom'ed for.

The flame-haired beauty is known for taking risks while retaining her soft, feminine demeanor. This Zac Posen Spring '12 RTW frock would work wonders, particularly across Jessica Chastain's generous bust.

The Descendants star often chooses youthful gowns, to match her, well, youth. We're liking this canary yellow Elie Saab Spring '12 RTW number for Shailene Woodley, as she tends to like strapless also.

George Clooney's gorgeous handbag, Stacy Keibler, would look a million bucks in this Badgley Mischka gown from their Resort 2012 collection. The flattering V neck (Stacy's go-to cut) should keep her happy.

Angelina Jolie, the undisputed queen of the red carpet given that enviable posture and, you know, the whole package, would look stunning in this Versace gown, fresh from their Spring 2012 Haute Couture collection. Though Ange already opted for Atelier Versave at the Globes, this look would prove out of this world.

Let's hope Jennifer Lawrence's stylist gets it right with the snake charms of Armani Prive Spring 2012 Haute Couture. Those voluptuous curves would no doubt be show-stopping.

Girly and just a little bit edgy at times, funny lady Kristen Wiig should opt for something out of Ralph Lauren's Spring '12 RTW collection. Her petite frame would look magical in something slinky and sheer like above.

Only the likes of Young Hollywood could pull off knee-length at the Oscars. We think Chloe Moretz would win praise in this Louis Vuitton frock from Spring 2012 RTW. Though Elle Fanning was seen in a similar LV dress recently, Ms. Moretz's cheeky grin and the pop of color would provide the perfect accompaniments.

Obviously conscious of her curves, Melissa McCarthy should opt for this stunning Valentino gown from their Spring 2012 RTW collection. A slimming black would also flatter but the delicate lace detailing is where it's at.

Can you see it already? Marion Cotillard would wow in this gown from Dior's Spring 2012 RTW collection. Given the actor is also a spokesperson for the brand, it just all fits, doesn't it?

Proving that age means absolutely jack shiz in Hollywood, Meryl Streep would impress in this Elie Saab Spring 2012 Haute Couture gown. The waist belt would cinch her in even further.

Call it wishful thinking but we look to the adventurous Michelle Williams when it comes to slipping print into the mix. We'd love to see the actor in this Oscar de la Renta Spring 2012 gown, purely to mix things up a bit. Michelle has shown a penchant for florals, to boot.
