The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced that LEGO and Lord of the Rings were meant for one another. Both are timeless, both feature tiny people, and I've used both to help myself understand the political and tactical intricacies of global armed conflict. That's probably why LEGO and LOTR have teamed up for some official Lord of the Rings LEGO sets (and, hopefully, a LEGO Lord of the Rings video game series to match Star Wars, Batman, Indiana Jones... the list goes on). LEGO's been carefully revealing Tolkien-inspired brick-work to the world, and today we have our first glimpse of the minifigs that represent the Fellowship. This photo was snapped at the UK Toy Fair; the portrait it captures shows off all four Hobbits as well as Legolas, Aragorn, Boromir, Gimli, and Gandalf.

Everybody looks pretty good! The outfits are especially cool. I almost didn't notice Gimli there for a second, but then I saw his beard and felt rather silly. Legolas' bow and Gandalf's staff are cool, but I hope we'll get to see other weapons--like Gimli's axe, Aragorn's sword, and Sting--in the official sets. Also, I'm holding out for Gollum, because I fully expect LEGO will do an awesome job with Gollum.
So, yeah, LEGO Lord of the Rings. Thoughts?
