Now usually I don't do this, but uh, go ahead and break 'em off with a little completely awesome rumor that I hope is true.
TDW Geek by way of Paul Gale is reporting that Rocksteady's next game is called The Manhattan Crisis... a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game. If you've played the standout Batman: Arkham Asylum or its even more acclaimed sequel, Arkham City, I don't have to tell you how incredible this collaboration would be. The Turtles haven't had a really amazing video game release since Turtles in Time, as far as I'm concerned. As icons of our childhoods, they deserve to be paid proper interactive tribute! Rocksteady's just the company to do it--with their knack for urban environments and their pitch-perfect combat mechanics, they'd no doubt create one of the greatest Turtles games ever spawned. Come on, people--the studio is called Rocksteady. As in, Bebop and Rocksteady? Are you starting to see the connection here?
These are initial details from the rumor report. They're... damn promising.
- All four Turtles will be playable, with flashbacks played as Master Splinter/Hamato Yoshi.
- Gameplay and story/stage progression will be similar to Batman: Arkham City.
- Bosses include Bebop and Rocksteady, Dr. Baxter Stockman, Shredder (Oroku Saki), and Krang. In the case of the humans-turned-mutants, you fight them in both forms throughout the story.
- The Turtle Van and Turtle Blimp will be included.
- The game will use Arkham City‘s graphics engine.
- The game is expected to be more dark than slapstick.
All I have to say to this is... Big Apple, 3 a.m. Of course, there's definitely a chance that this information could be false--another rumor holds that Rocksteady's hoping its next project is another DC Comics adaptation. (Doesn't the "C" in "DC" stand for "Comics"? I digress.) I think if I just hope for this to be a real thing with all my heart, it will happen. Please, Rocksteady. Think of the children. The mutant, ninja children.
