Modern Family Recap: Season 3, Episode 13 “Little Bo Bleep” (1/18/2012)
More Modern Family: Recaps | News | All TV Recaps TVOlogy

BABY LILY ISN’T INNOCENT ANYMORE.

The 2-year-old flower girl lost all her innocence in “Little Bo Bleep,” where she dropped even more f-bombs than I do while playing Mario Kart. The storyline actually made a few headlines as it generated complaints from the guy who started the cool kids’ “No Cussing Club.” Unfortunately, their website is so ugly I audibly broke their only rule right upon my own curious entry.

Anyway, what the fudge was I talking about? Oh yea, so the episode opens with the Dunphys discovering a story in a small newspaper about how local government candidate Claire is “angry and unlikable.” Claire obviously doesn’t take kindly to this, as Luke reminds her how angry she got when his teacher called him “special.” That’s not a compliment??

Meanwhile, Cam and Mitch prepare Lily to be a flower girl at a friend’s wedding. Her dress is a hideously tacky Lite-Brite/Christmas tree hybrid, and as she’s doing her first practice run, she drops a few flowers here and there… then drops the f-bomb. Cam laughs and runs away, Mitch is speechless, and I thought it was hilarious. She swears throughout the episode until she performs the coup de grace of all swears, right in the middle of the wedding.

And finally, the Delgados' French bulldog Stella appears to be attempting suicide by repeatedly jumping into the family pool. As Claire’s competitor said, doggy suicide is actually quite common, though not as sexy as feline AIDS. Jay’s love for that dog becomes pretty apparent when he dries her off before even noticing an equally-soaked Gloria.

The best part of the episode is when Phil gets autotuned and goes viral. His insanely embarrassing tirade about not being a pervert during Claire’s speech is a train wreck on par with other autotune moments like the ever-famous Bed Intruder Song. Overall, “Little Bo Bleep” is one of the better episodes so far this season. While Claire is as angry and sarcastic as Phil is humiliating, the family always manages to stay together (and funny, intentionally or otherwise).

SumOlogy: Not gonna lie, the cameo by the board game Operation adds a full point.

Grade: 8.5/10

Leftovers

Man, the Dunphys are great hecklers. The airhorn, buzzing, and Phil’s fake helicopter really nailed the live speech experience.

“It’s like watching the Hindenberg.” –Jay

Still wondering what Lily made of all the cursing the directors had to ask her to do. Kinda reminds me of Will Ferrell’s Landlord sketch.

“Aww, she just wanted the squeaky wiener.” –Gloria
