Ludum Dare Hosting 'Stop SOPA Game Jam'

On Jan 18, 2012

Before we get into this post, GeekOlogist, I want to address the possibility that you read the headline and went, "What the heck is a game jam?" Here are some things a game jam is not: a breakfast spread, a chance to break out your Rock Band instruments and just chill, a substance made of crystallized psychic energy. Here is a thing that a game jam is: A limited stretch of time during which designers from across the globe work their hearts out to create playable games. Ludum Dare's Stop SOPA Game Jam has a horde of developers working overtime on this day of widespread protest to stand up against SOPA, PIPA, and other nefarious legislative acronyms.

The Stop SOPA Game Jam is intended as a creative complement to the blackouts rolling out across the far reaches of the Internet. Unlike most of the famous indie game competition's offerings, this game jam is freeform--meaning the only real prize to be had at the end is a bevy of crazy indie games to try.

Though SOPA has been gutted by the Internet backlash, PIPA--a new incarnation of the same act with a different name--still looms on the horizon. Join the world's most dedicated indie developers (including Notch himself!), lend your support to the protest, and get your game out there while there's still a free Internet on which to share it!
