'Teen Mom 2' Recap: "Making Moves"

On Jan 18, 2012

Now before we catch up with Jenelle, Leah, Kailyn and Chelsea, let's quickly look back at what last week had in store for the moms.

Jenelle got dumped by Keiffer because she was texting an ex while he was in lockdown. And she started going through the first stages of weed withdrawal.

Leah received Ali's test results from the geneticist and everything looked good on the genetic front, however, she may have a an issue with her bones, on top of the already present vision issue. But Ali finally stood on her own! So, that’s awesome, right?

Kailyn got into a car accident, in turn driving her financial situation even deeper into the hole. It really sucks that when things seem as if they are finally going well for her, they fall to pieces, literally. She to get herself out of this hole, Kailyn filed for child support from Jo, but neglected to tell him beforehand. As awesome of a mom Kailyn is, she’s really not that awesome when it comes to communicating.

Chelsea moved into a new apartment and is finally pulling her weight, well, if you want to call paying for utilities pulling weight. She asked Adam for help when moving but unfortunately Adam has reverted back to his old self. Yep, he’s back to being a selfish, whiny bitch. So he pretty much walked out on Chelsea, leaving her to move everything on her own.

This week though … well, actually, this week was pretty much like any other week for the moms. They all keep doing the same things they’ve always done. The things that have reinforced the ever so marketable characters they are. Just read on and you'll see.

Jenelle:

Man, is Jenelle having a hard time kicking the weed habit. Must be all those nicotine wrapped blunts. Anyway, her withdrawal fits are causing tension in the house.

Not only is Jenelle's mom getting on her nerves, asking her to do the things any teen living under their parent's roof should be doing (cleaning up after herself, keeping an eye on her child, getting out of bed before 1 p.m.), but she's just so stressed, since her life is so difficult (having to find a job, getting back into school and, if that ever happens, passing classes). And it doesn’t help that all of this is weighing on her around that time of the day when she likes to just kick back and spark a blunt. Wow, she totally sounds like an alcoholic who needs her tall boy the minute she gets home from work.

So to reduce all this tension, Jenelle decides to move in with her friends Tori and Tylor. But Jenelle's mom reminds her that she didn't choose to have a baby at 57, that it was Jenelle who chose to have a baby at 16. So she has to devise a parenting plan in which she sees Jace at least once a week and for more than an hour.

But that's not really of interest to Jennelle at the moment. Her mind is preoccupied with Keiffer. And what do you know, the morning after moving in with Tori and Tylor, Keiffer Facebook messages Jenelle, explaining how much he misses her and how he is lost without her.

So you know how I said these moms just keep doing what they've been doing, making moves to ultimately keep their caricature cycle going, well Jenelle forgives Keiffer once again. And they even have the same post-breakup / pre-get back together conversation they always have. You know, the one where they outline what they need to do to have a good relationship. But they’re not jumping right back into a relationship. Their relationship status would be "working things out," as Keiffer puts it.

Leah:

When Leah finally feels like she can stop worrying about lil Ali’s health, she receives a letter from the geneticist letting her know they would like to see Ali in a year for a follow up concerning a skeletal syndrome she may have. So of course Leah begins to worry herself and Googles the condition until she’s on the verge of tears. But after a phone call to the geneticist she’s assured that it’s nothing to worry herself about and that it will take a year’s time before anything can be done, that’s if anything even needs to be done.

And to remind Leah that she needs to cool it on the worrying, instead placing her focus on the positive strides, Ali shows mom that with a little help, in the form of splints, she can start progressing. Yep, she gets right to standing during the first physical therapy session.

Oh and Coey is looking into becoming a coal miner to make more money. Dangerous!

Kailyn:

Kailyn has begun the battle known as child support. However, she initiated it with quite the cheap shot. Yep, she didn’t tell Jo before she filed. So now he is pissed and she is stressing.

Supposedly they had a pre-existing agreement in which Jo and Kailyn would go shopping together for Isaac and split the bill down the middle. But that’s just covering food, diapers and clothes, not a portion of the cost of keeping the lil guy sheltered. Instead, that’s all on Kailyn. But how Jo sees it is that it’s Kailyn who is going to be living off the child support, on top of additional government money, while settling for a part time job because it’s where her boyfriend works.

Jo and his bro don’t know how Kailyn is looking at this battle, but they think they do. And how they see it is her looking out only for herself, all in an attempt to ruin Jo's life.

But as Jordan points out to Kailyn, her and Jo need to sit down and communicate. Unfortunately, Kailyn doesn’t know how to properly communicate, which is evident again when they do sit down to talk it out. Jo thinks he’s being asked by the court to pay too much, even though the only bills he has are his car payments and cell phone, and he works full time, while Kailyn has car payments, cell phone, college tuition, rent and all of Isaac’s needs. But she can’t make her point clear because she is too busy being rude and once again not communicating properly

Chelsea:

Chelsea is on a mission to get a job. So she applies to a gym, tanning salon … nope, no laundromats, this way she can start paying those utility bills while her dad foots the rent.

She really must feel like such a loser having to talk about herself on these interviews. 'I want to go to cosmetology school, but I have to first get my GED, but I'd love to work in your tanning salon.' You can see it in her face, especially when she has to say it aloud, it’s almost like accepting that this is where her life is at and she’s really not happy with it. But hey, at least she’s trying. You have to start somewhere, right? And what do you know; she gets the job! At Year Round Brown. Oh man. Then again, nothing rhymes with orange.

Adam finally comes by to watch a movie, but he's texting away on his phone and Chelsea is getting upset. She asks why he’s there if he’s just going to be on his phone. So of course he gets all bitchy, calls her stupid and leaves.

SumOlogy: When will they break the chains?! (probably when they stop getting paid to wear them, even though by then they'll just have gotten even tighter)

Grade: 6/10
