Monday is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, but it is also Betty White's 90th birthday. She may be 90-years-old, but she is still as vibrant and hilarious as she was when she first came to the Hollywood scene decades ago. She sat with Robert Pattinson at the People's Choice Awards last week, and filmed a special for NBC that will air Monday night. The tribute will be a fun opportunity for fans to celebrate the joy and brilliance of this iconic comedienne.
Though Betty has been adored for years, her popularity certainly has spiked over the past few years. While she never really left the entertainment industry, her role in The Proposal in 2009 sparked a renewed interest in her, and the movement to get her to host Saturday Night Live in 2010 made her a hot commodity. Of course now her show Hot In Cleveland has her front-and-center, and fans adore her.
Monday night's special is titled Betty White's 90th Birthday: A Tribute to America's Golden Girl. It was filmed last weekend and baking guru Betty Crocker, who also just turned 90, baked the cake for the special. On The Red Carpet shares that the tribute features appearances by Ellen DeGeneres, Tina Fey, Morgan Freeman, Vicki Lawrence, Ray Romano, Amy Poehler, Zachary Levi and many more. Betty's co-stars from Hot In Cleveland, Wendi Malick, Valerie Bertinelli and Jane Leeves, will also appear, as will her Mary Tyler Moore co-stars including Mary, Ed Asner, Gavin MacLeod and Valerie Harper.
Since the special is pre-taped, Betty will actually get to spend her birthday quietly at home. She told People magazine that she is "going to sit back home with my golden retriever Pontiac." She added that she may just enjoy some of the things she doesn't have time for ordinarily, such as crossword puzzles and indulging herself. While fans embrace Betty as true comedienne, Mary Tyler Moore calls her a "very serious person." However, Carol Burnett shares, "She's just got that off-color sense of humor, and she's just divine." Nobody has a bad word to say about her, and her own modesty is one of the reasons she is so revered.
While some would embrace the age of 90 by slowing down, Betty White wants to keep going. She told People she wants "just to stay as lucky as I am right now... Why should I quit when I'm having such a good time?" She adds, "So my New Year's resolution is to appreciate everything that's happening to me, and hopefully, hopefully continue to do it." Twitter is filled with well wishes for the Hollywood icon thanks to the tag #HappyBirthdayBetty, and it seems the love for White knows no bounds. Here's wishing Betty a very Happy Birthday, and best wishes for many more!
