Tori Amos' debut album 'Little Earthquakes' was released in the U.K. on this day in 1992.
See, and you thought all the classic albums came out in '91? Exactly 20 years ago today, piano songstress Tori Amos debuted her early masterpiece Little Earthquakes on East West Records. (The album was released a month later by Atlantic Records in U.S.) Written in the wake of Tori's disastrous '80s pop project Y Kant Tori Read, the album was recorded in multiple phases—first with then-boyfriend Eric Rosse and later in England with producer Ian Stanley. Featuring brutally emotional, sometimes evasive lyrics set to a fresh hybrid of classical music, early '70s singer/songwriterism and the gritty/energy of grunge and alternative rock, Little Earthquakes was a massive critical hit on both sides of the Atlantic and a notable commercial success thanks to memorable singles like "Silent All These Years", "Crucify" and "Winter".
