Madonna Finally Admits Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" Ripped Off "Express Yourself"

At long last, Madonna has finally... FINALLY... come out and said what we've all known for close to a full year now—that Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" totally and completely ripped off the chorus to "Express Yourself". Madge had this to say about Mother Monster's hit single in a new interview with Newsweek: "I thought, this is a wonderful way to redo my song... I mean, I recognized the chord changes. I thought it was . . . interesting."

Bam, yes! Thank you!

We all knew that "Born This Way" sounded a little too similar to that other empowering anthem by a strong, fiercely independent female singer keen on pushing buttons with unfaltering personal and creative integrity. Gaga and her gaggle of producers tried to deny it, but the songs speak for themselves. Is it the first time Lady Gaga pulled something from the Ciccone playbook? Please. Paying homage is one thing, but claiming complete ignorance that you're aping your biggest, most blatant creative influence is another.

Needless to say, it's refreshing to learn that Madonna was with us on this all along. I'm about 12% more excited to hear MDNA now.

Using Spotify? Listen to Like A Prayer (1989) by Madonna and Born This Way (2011) by Lady Gaga.
