The veteran superhero MMO City of Heroes is beset by MMO threats on all sides: With WoW still going strong, DCUO and Champions Online free-to-play, and SW:TOR carving out its own space in the multiplayer multiverse, the game's got more than its share of competition. Yet the title has thus far held out against its rivals, with a steady stream of free updates and a signature blend of superheroic action. The saga of City of Heroes now continues with City of Heroes Issue 22, "Death Incarnate." The update brings a host of new content for new recruits and veteran heroes or villains alike.
First and foremost, City of Heroes Issue 22 has the newly-creepified version of Dark Astoria and the dread sorceress Diabolique menacing the poor people of Paragon City and its environs. Diabolique is attempting to become an avatar of death by absorbing the power of a banished god, and you know what that means... time to throw on the cape and dole out some justice. In addition, there's a new trial involving a Shivan attack on Bloody Bay, new content and quests at all levels, and a brand-spankin'-new powerset, Darkness. Heroes and villains using Darkness will be able to control shadows and summon spectres to defeat their opponents.
