As far as public relations campaigns go, presidential elections are among the cheapest national publicity efforts. While $700 million + is a lot of money, it is nothing compared to, say, a national advertising campaign for Pepsi. With all the rules imposed on campaign spending and coordination with likeminded groups, political campaigns have to be very cautious when it comes to where and how they spend their money. That is, unless you are President Obama’s reelection campaign which is investing untold sums in a busy campaign t-shirt for the president designed by singer and new mom, Beyoncé Knowles.
Adorned with vaguely “hope and change-like” sentiments like, “words inspire” and “greater together,” as well as standbys like "2012" in Roman numerals and the 2008 slogan “yes we can.” Beyoncé’s t-shirt is sure to be the least coherent campaign message of the election year… and there are 10 months yet to go.
Beyoncé recently gave birth to daughter Blue Ivy with her husband, artist Jay-Z. The couple joins other Obama-supporting artists and music moguls like Russell Simmons and Sean “Diddy” Combs who were famously supportive of Obama’s 2008 presidential bid.
The t-shirt is available for pre-order now and sells for $45. The shirts will be officially available on February 7.
