In between haute couture, ready-to-wear and menswear, designers toss in resort and pre-fall collections to give us an idea of what's to come. The in-between collections are quick to be forgotten, but that doesn't mean they're not equal in creativity and worth. Join me in celebrating more collars, shoes made of fur, and peplum (note: trend alert).

Preen’s most recent pre-fall collection feels like a melting pot full of some of my favorite themes from recent collections of the design duo's. Some reappearances include navy and orange color-blocking similar to that in the fall 2011 collection, and a continuation of the peplum fad that made a roar at a handful of spring shows this past September. Just as expected, high necklines and pretty collars also made an appearance throughout the collection, but it was the symmetrical floral print and neon trim that really stood out. Though the silhouette felt like a traditional Thornton and Bregazzi preference, the collection as a whole is a breath of fresh air within its familiarity. If it’s any indication of the forthcoming fall collection, there’s a lot to look forward to at NYFW.

The Louis Vuitton pre-fall collection stands out among the rest with rounded car coats, skirt suits, and a slightly detectible ‘40s influence. Design director Julie de Libran notes late French architect Charlotte Perriand as her source of inspiration while designing the collection, which comes to life through high cinching methods and menswear influenced collars. Another reference to Perriand includes cutesy berets that were once considered the national cap of France. The fashion house most known for their monogrammed accessories introduced a mini version of the Papillon bag alongside the glamorous collection - complete with the traditional LV logo. One needn’t forget to mention what may have stood out the most: fur shoes, fur pockets, and fur collars. Sorry PETA!

Stella McCartney’s party presentations never fail to entertain, and the clothes don’t hurt either. For her most recent pre-fall collection, McCartney dabbled into the peplum trend mentioned previously above. The designer also channeled menswear with sleek, tailored suits. The prints stand on their own, but the dress over pants trend that designers are continuously try to push onto consumers (I'm calling you out, Karl) is not only unflattering, but outdated and bothersome. Nevertheless, Stella continues to impress the fashion industry with another successful collection and dedication to her brand. And after seeing Emma Stone’s outfit choice at the People’s Choice awards, I’m crossing my fingers that we get to see her in one of these Stella McCartney suits at least once this year.
