If you've watched the Jersey Shore, you've probably witnessed the toxic relationship between Sammi "Sweetheart" Giancola and her on again/off again boyfriend, Ronnie Ortiz. There have been several parts of the past four seasons when I watched the show and wondered when MTV gave Ron and Sam their own spinoff. It's been violent, emotional, explosive, and downright volitile—and that's just when things between them were good.
After several break-ups and make-ups, the two recently decided to end their relationship again, but according to Sam, they still love each other... very much... and maybe, just maybe, they could end up back together. "Ronnie is one of my great friends ... we still love each other," she said during a recent interview. When asked and she and Ron would give their romance another shot she responded, "You never know what tomorrow can bring."
While some people may look at that statement and think that Sam has absolutely lost her mind, I can look at it differently. She has been forced to live with this guy for years which isn't normal by any means, and could be the root of a lot of their problems. Aside from the fact that they never had time to properly court one another (they live in a house with a "smush room" and they didn't waste much time putting it to use), they can hardly stand to see each other next to another person of the same sex. Of course they are going to keep getting back together because MTV doesn't give them any other options. It's jealousy mixed with comfort, and that's a strong cocktail.
Sammi and Ronnie will always fall back in to their old ways because they have been stuck. Once Jersey Shore is a distant memory, they will be able to get rid of each other once and for all. What they do after the show is their business and as long as the rest of the world doesn't have to watch it, let them "do them." Seriously. Spare me the hour-long Ron/Sam fights. I'd rather hear about "meatball problems," and watch "The Situation" break his own neck.
