Now we can add Polish folks to the list of those who think Ohio State President Gordon Gee is a loose-lipped moron. Verily he spoke, and verily, he came off sounding pretty... pretty... pretty dumb.
THE President of THE Ohio State University compared his job to overseeing the "Polish army."
During a question and answer session, Gee expounded on the confusion of coordinating 18 different University divisions:
"When we had these 18 colleges all kind of floating around, they were kind of like PT Boats, they were shooting each other," Gee said. "It was kind of like the Polish army or something. I have no idea what it was."
Gee is an idiot, we all know that. But to compare his particular brand of idiocy to the fine Polish people, inventors of the pierogi, is really offensive to Polish.
This isn't the first time that Gee has said stupid things. Which would be expected of a loafish frat boy from THE Ohio State University. But you'd hope for a little better from the overseer one of the nation's richest athletic departments largest research Universities.
Gee tripped over his words when he was pressed on the Polish slur, awkwardly backtracking over what he said.
"Now if you're going to say I was saying something bad about Poland, I'm not," he explained. "I could have used some other term, I guess, then." He did not apologize.
Previously, Gordon Gee insulted mid-major football programs by calling them the "little sisters of the poor." He called a 1992 Ohio State-Michigan football tie one of the Buckeye's "greatest wins ever."
And, the coup de gras, during fallout from the Jim Tressel scandal at Ohio State, Gee was famously asked at a news conference whether he might fire Tressel over the wrong-doing.
"No, are you kidding?" Gee said. "Let me be very clear. I'm just hoping the coach doesn't dismiss me."
Jim Tressel was later forced by the University to resign. Recently, the Ohio State football was punished by the NCAA for violations under Tressel's watch. The Buckeyes were docked scholarships and are forbidden from participating in the Big Ten Championship game, or a bowl game, next season. Tressel has essentially been banned from working in college athletics for the next five years.
Gee, what an idiot.
(I apologize for that last line.)--
