The race for Senate in Massachusetts
is shaping up to be a good one for Democrats when it comes to fundraising.
Harvard professor and likely Democratic nominee to take on Sen. Scott Brown in the
Bay State again outraised her opponent – Warren’s campaign announced that they
raised a staggering $5.7 million in the fourth quarter of 2011. Brown’s
campaign, meanwhile, has only raised $3.2 million in that same period.
Warren only officially announced
her campaign in September of last year and immediately tapped into a
nation-wide network of fundraisers. In the third quarter of 2011 Warren also
outraised her likely Republican opponent by nearly $2 million. Her campaign
raised $3.15 million to Brown’s $1.55 million in the same period.
Warren has raised a strong national
profile since she began her quest to stop Brown from securing a full term in
the Senate and has become a darling of the progressive movement for her
full-throated defenses of liberal governance.
Warren’s popularity and fundraising
prowess has not yet overcome the advantages of incumbency. Scott Brown still
has a nearly two-to-one fundraising advantage with nearly $13 million on hand
to Warren’s $6 million.
