‘Teen Mom 2’ Recap: “Breaking Point"

On Jan 11, 2012

So, looks like MTV really wanted to drive home the point of how being a teen mom seriously sucks. Why else would they air two bum out episodes back to back, right?

Well, they succeeded. Personally, I was already convinced that being a teen mom sucked. But this episode reaffirmed that, 100 percent. Now here’s hoping the point hits and sits with the audience that really matters – ovulating teens.

All right, before we look at how much more sucky things have gotten for Jenelle, Leah, Kailyn and Chelsea, let's quickly look back at what they had to endure in the previous episode.

Jenelle has begun her downward spiral. She missed spring enrollment, meaning she's not going school. She's also back with Keiffer. According to Jenelle, he's learned his lesson, blah, blah, blah. But she obviously hasn't learned the lesson she should've been learning this whole time – the one on self-worth. Oh, and her court date for those breaking and entering and drug charges was postponed.

Leah once again gets good news with a side of bad news. During the physical therapy session it's suggested that Ali start wearing ankle braces to get her standing and the geneticist it’s suggested that Ali has some sort of life-threatening disorder that may affect her skeletal and reproductive systems. So now they have to wait four weeks for the blood test results to come back. And Corey’s starting to crack. He just can’t handle it.

Kailyn being the awesome mommy she is threw Isaac a first birthday party. Only thing, she had to work with Jo to get him for a few hours, since the party fell on his visitation day. Her cousins seriously grill her on Jordan before the party starts. But hey, they just want to make sure she keeps putting herself and Isaac first. You know, not do what some other girls (cough: Jenelle, Chelsea :cough) do, put the guys in their lives first. Unfortunately, the birthday high is deflated when Kailyn drops Isaac back off at Jo's and she has a little talk with his mom about that Christmas letter. Yeah, there's still some bitter resentment there.

Chelsea found out she has to move out of her house. She also started hanging with Meagan again. Meagan who is totally prego now! Yep, that's right. And what do you know? Chelsea gave her the speech. The one about how hard it is to be a teen mom, and how she doesn’t want to have to see someone she loves go through that.

All right, you ready to get bummed out?

Jenelle:

How Jenelle’s mind works, we’ll never really know.

What we do know though is that she’s texting and hanging with an ex. Well, she hung out with him just once, during the week when Keiffer was locked up. But the texts are still being sent and Keiffer is not happy about it. So much so that he storms out of her house -- yes, her house, for some reason her mom is letting him come around – and gives Jenelle the silent treatment for a few days. He does have a point though. If the phone were in the other hand, she wouldn’t be happy about him texting away with an ex.

So Jenelle -- in the midst of weed withdrawals, remember, she has to stay clean for her next court date in two months – can’t do anything but repeatedly text and call Keiffer only to get no response. Meanwhile her mom is actually giving her a chance to watch Jace while she runs an errand. Remember when she was bitching about not being able to watch her baby? Well, she couldn’t care less about that now, all she wants is her Keiffer.

And what do you know, he finally answers and comes over – but just to break up with her. And that is that. However, Jenelle does flip her shit and loses it.  You’d seriously think she was suicidal, and for all the wrong reasons, not as if there are really ever right reasons.

Leah:

Leah is sick and tired of playing the waiting game, which is completely understandable. It’s like, hurry up and get this test done, now wait four weeks for some results. So in the meantime, all she can do is hypothesize, and most of the time she’s not coming up with positive results. But at least she notices how bad it is to think the worst.

Fortunately, Ali has a little surprise to take mommy’s mind off it all. She can stand on her own! All right, she can stand on her own as long as she is leaning against something. But hey, it’s still progress, even if her feet are turned in and she’s putting all her weight on her heels.

And the test results from the geneticist came in. There are no signs of any syndrome. However, there could be minor skeletal issues. But the keyword is minor.

Kailyn:

Kailyn totals her car. Like seriously totals her car.  It really sucks that when things seem as if they are finally going well for her, they fall to pieces, literally.

She was already living on a tight budget, but now with the towing and impound fees Kailyn is strapped for cash. Fortunately, she has a hook up at a used car dealership. Yeah, her friend’s dad owns a dealership. And she’s able to get a car on the cheap. But that’s still spending money she doesn’t really have. So all she can think to do is file for child support. After all, she is the one paying for all Isaac’s daily needs from diapers to food, and that stuff is expensive.

But as soon as those papers are filed, the drama starts.

She really should have said something to Jo first. Just as she should’ve talked to her mom first before moving out. As awesome of a mom Kailyn is, she’s really not that awesome when it comes to communicating.

Chelsea:

Chelsea is ready to grow up! Or at least ready to pay for her utilities in her new apartment while her dad continues to foot the rent. Eh, it’s a start.

But yeah, Chelsea found a new place. Only thing, moving in isn’t as easy as she thought it’d be. See, she asks Adam for help but unfortunately Adam has reverted back to his old self. Yep, he’s back to being a selfish, whiny bitch. So instead of helping her move his daughter’s stuff into the new place he just stands there and complains about how tired he is. But hey, that’s what growing up and having a job is like. And eventually he storms out leaving Chelsea all alone with junk load of things to move on her own.

But she said it herself, when she really needs him, he isn’t there and after three years of this, she’s just used to it. Even though she really shouldn’t be. She shouldn’t settle for that crap and just write it off as Adam being Adam. She really does deserve better.

SumOlogy: It really is crazy the pain these girls choose to put themselves though, all for a stupid boy. If only they’d recognize their self-worth. Then again, they probably wouldn’t be in these situations if they had been able to in the first place.

Grade: 8/10
