UPDATE: The two were spotted kissing in New York over the weekend. Clearly still intact, this couple probably wanted to set the record straight by showing such a sign of affection in public.
On Saturday night Gossip Girl star Penn Badgley was spotted leaving Southside in SoHo with a brunette beauty that was not Zoe Kravitz. This is rather surprising since he and Zoe recently spent the holidays together in Miami. Usually a holiday vacay together signifies something serious.
But according to the New York Post, Penn enjoyed the company of a bunch of beautiful women before going home with one of them. If this report is true, then he's either cheating or he and Zoe have broken up.
It wouldn't be all that surprising if they couldn't make things work. I thought Zoe and Penn were an odd match when then hooked up over the summer. As the daughter of Lisa Bonet and Lenny Kravitz, Zoe has always struck me as a free-spirited chick who embraces a Bohemian lifestyle, while Penn comes off as a pretty, posh city boy who enjoys dressing to the nines and hitting the nightclub scene. In short, he kind of seems like a wannabe Leonardo DiCaprio, the guy his ex Blake Lively dated after they broke up.
He also has that same fragile, freaky look that John Mayer has, but since ladies seem to love it, maybe Penn Badgley is also on his way to becoming a player who hooks up with some of Hollywood's hottest women.
And why in the world would Zoe Kravitz want to date a boy after she's had a man? Her ex Michael Fassbender is becoming one of Hollywood's most respected actors these days thanks to roles in movies like Shame, A Dangerous Method, and Prometheus, so Zoe should be begging him to take her back right this moment. And they might as well hook up again -- filming the X-Men: First Class sequel is going to be awkward if they don't.
Maybe Zoe originally fell for Penn because he got cast as Jeff Buckley in the movie Greetings from Tim Buckley -- judging from her sense of style, she's probably a fan of the "Hallelujah" singer. However, she might have quickly discovered that Penn is nothing like the late folk rock legend.
