We have some more news regarding an earlier article about a
possible sequel to Bridesmaids. Apparently,
Melissa McCarthy has no interest in returning to make a sequel unless Kristin
Wiig signed on as well.
"God, I wouldn't want to," McCarthy told me on
Saturday at the Palms Springs International Film Festival gala. "I would
never want to. I think it's a terrible idea."
In the same article, Kristin Wiig also was quoted to be
working on an untitled new project with her writing partner, Annie Mumolo. If
that is true then it seems very unlikely that they will be able to write a Bridesmaids sequel.
As much as I loved Bridesmaids, I
think it would be a horrible idea to make a sequel. Studios suck all of the
life out of great movies with sequels just to make a few extra bucks. I love
money as much as the next guy but I don’t feel the need to tarnish art to make
more of it. Unless the studio is able to rehire the original cast then sequel
will be a guaranteed flop.
