The pulling power of Anna Wintour never
ceases to amaze, does it? Women’s Wear Daily and Fashionista are reporting that fashion’s first lady is back on the Vote Barack
Obama bandwagon, rallying up a heavyweight list of style stars to design
exclusive products to benefit the Obama Victory Fund for his hopeful re-election this year.
Bundled up in one tidy initiative, Runway
To Win, is rumored to feature pieces from 22 leading designers including
Alexander Wang, Marc Jacobs, Diane von Furstenberg, Jason Wu, Rag & Bone,
Tory Burch, Narsciso Rodriguez, Joseph Altuzarra and Tracy Reece. The pieces
will be sold online at runwaytowin.com and Scarlett Johansson will host a
special event in conjunction with the initiative, sponsored by Vogue.
Anna’a strength was so powerful that Marc
Jacobs is said to have rejected his boss’s (Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy)
requests to not participate, due to pressure he felt from Vogue. His specially designed tee will feature in the initiative.
We think it’s a pretty savvy move by Anna,
who will no doubt draw attention from those fashion-loving consumers who really
take no interest in politics otherwise. If that sounds like you, here’s a little something that might bring
you up to speed.
