'Desperate Housewives' Recap: "What's To Discuss, Old Friend?"

On Jan 08, 2012

Luckily for Bree some one showed up right before she was going to kill herself. Bree lives! Well, obviously. We all knew they weren't going to kill off one of the main girls before the series finale. Renee showed up at the right moment and insisted on kicking down the door to confront Bree for stealing her man. After a Vivica A. Fox like tirade she realizes there is a gun on the table, reads the suicide note and figures out that Bree was really there to try and kill herself. Renee to the rescue!

The fights continue to rage on at the Scavo residence because Tom still can't believe Lynette has roped him into this murder scandal. Hey! I don't blame him. On the radio Lynette discovers that the detective has been killed by a hit-and-run. Hallelujah!

Gaby is running around like a mad woman as she tries to figure out where Carlos is since he escaped from rehab. Before leaving the rehab center Gaby discovers the detective is dead from the TV in the lobby.

Renee decided to move in with Bree to make sure she is okay. A friendly suicide watch if you will. A text comes through and both Bree and Renee discover the fate of Bree's detective boyfriend.

Looking fine without his shirt on Mike runs after Susan who is trying to flee to New York. The gay neighbor even runs by and says, "Lookin' good Mike!" I loved it. Before you know it Bree, Lynette and Gaby show up to tell Susan what has happened to the detective. In true Housewives fashion the gals gossip right out on the street for every one to hear or see. Idiots.

After the pow-wow with the girls Lynette runs home to tell Tom and finds out that Bob is there because Tom wants an attorney to help them. Now Bob knows the ladies buried Gaby's step-father! Great! Again, typical. Well, at least Chuck is dead now. But who did it?!

Gaby heads to the police station to try to get information on Chuck's death. In her trademark comedic fashion Gaby is trying to flirt and fast-talk her way out of becoming a suspect. Unfortunately the cop tells her that he is fairly certain whoever ran Chuck over did it on purpose. Cue dramatic music.

Luckily for Gaby she finds out that Carlos has shown up at Karen's house drunk and she let him pass out upstairs the night before. Disoriented and hungover he is unable to figure out what happened. They go to check his car to find answers and realize that it is missing!

Over a glass of wine Bree and Renee have a heart to heart only to come to the conclusion that Bree doesn't really consider Renee a friend at all. What a b*tch! She just saved your freaking life Bree! Broken hearted Renee leaves the room revealing that she has already dealt with a loved one committing suicide before. Of course, now Bree feels bad. As she should.

At the detective's funeral Lynette and Tom seem to bond all over again because they realize how much they mean to each other. Susan is devisated and can't stop crying until Chuck's aunt helps her through these tough times. Bree and Renee sit next to each other in their grief. Renee reveals that it was her mother that killed herself and it has haunted her ever since. (Some of the best acting Vanessa Williams has done by the way, Bravo Ms. Williams!)

Later that night Tom comes over for movie night with Lynette and the kids. They get into their usual fights. It is starting to get annoying. Gaby and Carlos head to bed but not before Gaby threatens him. She says that if he ever goes to the police to confess something without clearing it with him she will kill him. Carlos drifts to sleep quite frightened. Eva Longoria making a death threat. Yikes!

After fighting and making up Lynette and Tom go back to loving each other. Lynette realizes that Tom should go back with Jane and meet her in Paris. A heart breaking conversation but Lynette realizes she wants Tom to be happy. That is why they separated after all.

The episode ends with Susan leaving for Oklahoma to try to comfort Gaby's step-father's family. Who the hell knows why she is doing that? Stupid. Also, Bree goes to get the mail and receives yet another anonymous letter. All it says is, "You're Welcome." Duh duh duhhhh.

SumOlogy: A captivating episode after their holiday break. It looks like the final episodes of this popular series are going to be pretty good! Juicy, as always.

Grade: 9/10

Leftovers:

- Vanessa Williams was fabulous in this episode.

- I think Marcia Cross wants an Emmy really bad.

- I love me some Eva Longoria.

- James Denton is still a stud.

- Mrs. McCluskey is a riot and she only ever has a few lines in each episode.

- Sometimes this shows feels too long. Maybe it should've been a half hour.
