Western Kentucky Loses To Six-Man Team, Immediately Fires Coach

Senior Editor
On Jan 06, 2012
There's nothing worse for a basketball coach than losing a basketball game to a team that had six players on the court for the final play. Except getting fired immediately after losing, that is. That's exactly what happened to (former) Western Kentucky coach Ken McDonald after WKU lost a heartbreaker to Louisiana-Lafayette.

The final seconds of the game have already made their way around the internets, but we'll repost the video here so you can see the great deception:

From the looks of it, NO ONE knew that the Ragin' Cajuns (also the James Carvilles) finished with six players on the court, including Louisiana-Lafayette. Otherwise they wouldn't have run such a shitty isolation play. The announcers, the refs, the players and both coaching staffs carry on in complete oblivion as Western Kentucky fell to 5-11 on the year. Western Kentucky administrators were so incensed that they decided to fire Coach McDonald the morning after the loss. That's pretty damn cold.

What's a coach supposed to think about while defending the final play in a tie game? Schemes, a possible final shot, challenging the inbounds pass, etc. Probably not about whether or not the other team has six players. Oh well. Cue the zither music, because the Sixth Man ruined Ken McDonald's career.

The sixth man was you, Ken McDonald! It was you all along!
