In yet another lesson in
how-to-get-people-talking-through-controversial photographs-taken-by-Terry
Richardson, Equinox health club have delivered their new advertisement
campaign. And wouldn’t you know it? People are talking.
In typical style, the theme is hyper-sexualized at times. Terry has captured a whole
bunch of tongue-in-cheek scenarios that involve models acting out various
elements of a healthy lifestyle. So for example, in the still titled ‘Flex
Appeal,’ a female model is bending back on all fours during a dirty photo shoot.
But the sizzling scenarios aren’t the
problem this time around. Gym goers are losing their shit over how skinny the models look.
Fashionista noted the following posts on Equinox’s Facebook page:
“Why did all of the models have a runway
physique? Equinox is promoting health and fitness, so I would like to see some
healthy and fit women on their ad campaigns who look like they could actually
survive a typical Equinox class…”
“Another couple million spent on the
degradation of women. Good work fitness guys”
In Terry’s defense, and as Fashionista also
pointed out, the girls do have some definition, particularly in the arms. As a
matter of fact, and let’s be honest, who isn’t motivated by the women they see
in magazine shoots/fashion campaigns? Overtly buff body-builder types, even
men, are a total turn-off to most.
Are these models really too skinny to be
modeling for a health club?
