I'm legitimately not sure how to feel about this, you guys. On the one hand, getting an action figure is just about the highest honor to which any geek icon can aspire. It's right up there with appearing a secret character in Ready 2 Rumble Boxing and getting your picture on a Magic: the Gathering card (I'm looking at you, Shadowmage Infiltrator.) On the other hand, it hasn't been long since Apple fans worldwide lost their hero. Is it too soon for a Steve Jobs action figure?
That's really not for me to say. I will say that the action figure itself--from In Icons and Dragons in Dream--is an accurate depiction of the Jobs I got to know during the beginning of my blogging career. When I got started writing for Ology, I would never have described myself as an Apple guy. Now, two years later, I'm equipped with an iPhone 4S and I'm never looking back. Jobs' genius is pretty much solely responsible for my decision to go with an iPhone, and now that genius is immortalized by the 12-inch Steve Jobs action figure. Looking at the craftsmanship, I'm gonna go ahead and say that personally, I think this is a nice tribute to the Apple frontman. I can understand, though, if you look at it and you're all, "woaaaaah cashgrab." Let's just be glad it doesn't talk or judo chop or whatever, people.
I figure only the most hardcore Apple fans will spring for the figure, which will run you $99 plus shipping when it's released in late February, but the target audience should appreciate the fine work and respect that clearly went into this geek artifact.
Oh, and one more thing: The little iPad you see in the banner pic? It's unfortunately not included. You'll have to design your own accessories for your Steve Jobs action figure--a subtle encouragement of creativity that is perhaps the figure's most appropriately Steve Jobs-ian feature.
