I think Mojang is a pretty cool guy; eh builds stuff with pixels and doesn't afraid of anything.
You guys remember how, in one of last year's (last year's!) Ludum Dare game jams, Notch put together a pint-sized version of his breakout title Minecraft that transposed the bigger game's vocabulary to a more small-scale, single-player world? In keeping with the Ludum Dare's theme--"Alone"--Minicraft challenged its players to create their own arsenals of tools and weapons in pursuit of the ultimate isolation. The goal? Kill the game world's only other sentient being, rendering the player... forever alone. The mini game was such a success that Notch is working on a follow-up--and while it's taking longer than the 48 hours Notch spent on the original, it's definitely moving right along. Of course, for a game to really stake its claim on the attention of GeekOlogists everywhere, it has to have a cool name. Do you think The Last Of Us would be such a big deal if it were called Me And Ellen Page Fight The Evil Mushroom Zombies? If so, you're... probably right, actually. But that's beside the point! Notch's new project needed a name and now, it has one: Kneel, Minicraft 2, and arise, MiniTale!
Inspired by the new name, Notch snagged the .com and .net for the title. Any news related to the project should pop up on these sites, which currently indicate that MiniTale is "coming eventually." Fans of the Ludum Dare title and of Minecraft in general eagerly await any news about the new experience--we'll have the latest as soon as it emerges from Notch's pixelated brain.
