89-year-old Olympic fencer, sword master, fight director and stunt performer Bob Anderson passed away at an English hospital yesterday, ESPN reports. Anderson secretly performed the light saber battles in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi (aka the good ones), stepping in for actor David Prowse. In a career spanning half a century, Anderson worked with everyone from Errol Flynn to Antonio Banderas, and crafted memorable fight scenes for such films as From Russia With Love, The Princess Bride and the Lord of the Rings trilogy. He is survived by his wife Pearl and three children. One of my favorite Anderson sequences appeared in Die Another Day, the clear highpoint in an otherwise hogwash Bond movie. Watch it below.
