Prepping for their upcoming New Year's Eve concerts with Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band, acid-rock heroes The Flaming Lips recently dropped by Pink Floor Studios in their hometown of Oklahoma City to cut a killer rendition of the original acid-rock song, The Beatles' still-trippy-to-this-day "I Am The Walrus".
Ology Interview: The Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne Talks 'Yoshimi', Gummy Skulls, And Working With Ke$ha
Yes, it's even better than you think. Check it out:
(via Consequence Of Sound)
No idea why Wayne is singing through a giant transparent orange disc, or why Steven Drozd is cowering under a silver, hopefully nuclear fallout repellent blanket, but none of that matters because their "I Am The Walrus" is ten types of amazing. Mouthing the string interlude, backing vocals, and random sound effects through a distorted mic is kind of the most brilliant idea ever... with just a microphone, distorted bass, and a drum kit, the Lips have (seemingly without effort) cut maybe the best "Walrus" cover I've ever heard.
See, and you thought you weren't going to miss anything over Christmas break!
