The DJ Earworm 2011 Mash-Up Is Here!

On Dec 26, 2011

Some of you guys might be like, "Wait, DJ Earworm? In my GeekOlogy?" My friends, it's more likely than you think. Maybe MusicOlogy has a more legitimate claim to the mash-up mastermind, but dammit, the entire Internet is GeekOlogy's playground. Also under the Geek umbrella(ella, ella): The apocalypse. The DJ Earworm 2011 year in pop mash-up is viral gold. It also chronicles the end of the world. You're starting to see where I'm going with this, right?

"World Go Boom" is this year's "United States of Pop"--in this time-bending mash-up, the incomparable DJ Earworm throws the year's biggest Top 40 hits into a blender, takes whatever comes out, mixes it with some hard liquor, and serves it in a five minute shot of liquid awesome. Listen, and you'll no doubt recognize some of the more high-profile songs of the year. That infectious whistling bit from "Moves Like Jagger"? Yep, it's in there. Adele? Represented twice. Katy Perry? She made it on there three times, which might explain why the video's overall sound matches her style. Cee Lo, Bruno Mars, and Rihanna (who would like for you to na-na-na-na-na-na-come on) are all here and they're ready to party their way through the apocalypse.

The DJ Earworm 2011 effort has discovered a viable apocalyptic throughline in the year's pop tunes, and frankly, I'm not surprised. As we look ahead to 2012, famed as the scheduled year for the end of the world, it's nice to have an impossibly catchy Earworm offering to bring joy as we hide from the killer robots / stave off the onrushing zombie hordes / find the pieces of the shattered Worldstone and banish the ghost of the Macarena back to the swirling blackness beyond and time.

Na na na na na COME ON!

I probably should've warned you before I let you listen that this song would take up residence somewhere in your subconscious from moment one, but hey, hindsight's 20/20, and we have an apocalypse on the horizon.
