Think Wollman Rink in Central Park is New
York’s trendiest slice of ice? Nuh uh, not anymore. WWD is reporting that DKNY
is teaming up with the New York Rangers to blaringly brand those blue, white
and red practice jerseys the boys sport on the rink at Madison Square Garden,
the team’s home ground. In other words, though a redesign is unlikely (can you
imagine the fan-based uproar?), DKNY’s big fat logo will be plastered across
the jerseys for the rest of the 2011-2012 season.
Although they may only be the practice
jerseys, DKNY are about to get a whole lot more global as the ice hockey team will be
wearing them during filming for the HBO-produced behind-the-scenes series, 24/7 Flyers/Rangers: Road to the Winter
Classic.
It's not the first time Donna Karan has seen serious value in the whole sports endorsement thing. Back in April 2010, the label did a similar deal with the New York Yankees. DKNY: Taking over the world one sweaty athlete at a time.
