How To Have A Vogue Weekend: Christmas Party Dressing

On Dec 21, 2011

To put it simply, I’m a nineteen-year-old blogger with an unhealthy adoration for aesthetics and online shopping. I’ll be sharing my tips, must haves, and weekly blogger girl problems as I mourn the loss of my paycheck. If you need a daily fix, you can find more of my musings here.

The week before Christmas is finally here, and a pile of holiday-themed invitations sit on our desks with the hopes of being chosen. Between the potlucks, girls-only baking afternoons, and Starbucks meet-ups, it's hard to not only choose where to go, but what to wear while you're there. I tossed together three outfits for what I believe are some of the most common holiday activities of them all: secret Santa, movie night, and the cliche Christmas party. Fortunately, all of the outfits are incredibly versatile and can be worn at just about any event on your December to-do list.

Secret Santa Swap

Details: Dolce & Gabbana cropped sweater, Halston Heritage pleated skirt, Uniqlo pea coat, MMM stackable rings, Marc by Marc Jacobs Natasha Crossbody, Dorothy Perkins black lace up boot, Tinsley Road infinity scarf, H&M and Falke tights

Getting together with your closest friends to drink hot coco and exchange anonymous presents has got to be one of my favorite things to do. There's a little thrill behind the mystery of who got you your favorite tv drama on DVD, and an equal thrill when it comes to deciding what to wear. Opt for a knee-length skirt, a cropped sweater, two pairs of tights, and a pair of ankle booties. When it comers to outerwear, choose a bold color if you're one to stick to neutrals underneath. Toss on a matching snood, some stackable rings, a classic bag and you're good to go.

The Christmas Story

Details: Dorothy Perkins double breasted coat, J. Crew fair isle sweater, ASOS detachable collar, assorted Christmas movies, Cheap Monday flat grey bag, Qupid Strip 27 velvet loafers, Rich & Skinny black skinny jeans, Nars nail lacquer, and the Marc Jacobs Daisy hot pink eau de parfum

Prepare your favorite baked goods, grab a classic holiday movie, and head over to your best friend's apartment in style. Why not go the traditional route and throw on a fair isle print sweater? You can mix things up by attatching a detachable collar and slipping into some neutral loafers. Make sure to carry a big tote to carry all of your belongings in, and don't forget your coat!

You Are Cordially Invited

Details: Tom Ford nail lacquer, Tibi sweater dress, Kate Spade pearl bib, Topshop jewel tights, Unlisted heels, and a Topshop faux fur clutch

I don't know about you, but the last thing I want to sacrafice for fashion is my body temperature. When attending your annual Christmas party, choose the classic sweater dress over something less comfortable. Add a dressy touch with a set of pearls and fancy tights, and nobody will even notice you're wearing a knit.

What holiday parties are you attending this week? Let me know by tweeting me @chelseabellls. Happy Holidays!
