Looks like Chaz Bono has to find someone new to kiss under the mistletoe.
US Weekly announced today that the Dancing with the Stars competitor ended his engagement with Jennifer Elias. The couple has yet to speak about the split, but a representative spoke on behalf of the formerly happy couple.
"They leave this relationship with great love, respect and affection towards one another," the rep told US Weekly.
This comes as a shock to those who witnessed the couple's fairy-tale like romance. The two began dating in five years ago. At the time, Bono still identified as a woman and went by the name Chastity Bono. In 2009, the gay-rights activist and author announced his decision to undergo gender reassignment. A decision that may have led to the couple's demise.
In May 2011, Elias appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show and talked about Bono's decision. She admitted that "it was really hard" when her partner chose to make the transition from female to male.
"We had to really almost re-learn how to communicate and how to be around each other," Elias said.
Despite these difficulties, Elias accepted Bono's marital proposal earlier this year. He pulled out all the stops, popping the question on top of the Space Needle in Seattle. The scene was featured on Bono's reality show "Being Chaz," which airs on OWN. Let's just hope they don't the split like the Kardashians did.
Hopefully the couple can find a happy ending, with or without eachother.
