Pre-Fall 2012: DvF, Phillip Lim, And Tibi

On Dec 16, 2011

Diane von Furstenberg

As an avid fan of Diane von Furstenberg's collections and ladylike stlying, I was quite disappointed with the Pre-Fall collection. Though it's evident that the designer stuck to her roots in terms of eye-catching prints and colors, the collection as a whole feels as though it is targeted towards a new shopper. As if the studs and pleather basketweave didn't add enough flare, the shapes and cut of many of the jackets and vests give the collection an edgier feel. As previously noted, however, colors like sky blue, olive green, and orange made the collection one of Diane's. If the DvF woman didn't make a statement before, she certainly is now.

3.1 Phillip Lim

As usual, Phillip Lim delivers a clean, consistent, and wearable collection. After reading that the collection was inspired by comic books, seeing the word "Ka-Boom" plastered across a couple of pieces didn't come as much of a surprise. Cape-like peacoats, reversible puffer jackets, and functional zippers made for other evident inspirations. Though some of the clothing featured prints, shag, and block letters, Lim manages to give each piece an everyday sort of feel. If you were to splurge and purchase the collection as a whole, there's no doubt in my mind that you'd be prepared to bare not only the weather but work, brunch, and even formal events. This collection has it all.

Tibi

With sleek hair to match, Tibi embraces boxy shapes, neutral colors, and a cool-girl appeal. The only pop of color or print noted is a bright bubble-gum pink, on-trend snakeprint, and a memorable floral. This collection wasn't without excitement, though. The silhouttes and black on white on grey ensembles make for excellent statement pieces and are easily wearable. Everything is undoubtedly interchangeable and it seems almost hard to go wrong when styling. Those that prefer the minimalist chic look such as myself will give this collection an A+.
